Spotlight on Adventist education in the North Caribbean Conference

15 Sep 2018 | NCC Staff/Gerene Joseph

The pre-opening activities for the BVI SDA School included a Professional Development Day and a School Employees Spiritual Retreat. The Professional Development activity which took place on September 6, addressed seminars such as ADHD in the Classroom: Identification and Supports by Marsha Flemming and Afiya Smith; Learning Styles by Mrs Gerene Joseph; and Using Student Achievement Data to Support Instructional Learning by Dr Troy Browne.

On Friday, September 7, the North Caribbean Conference hosted a Spiritual Retreat, entitled, Together we can Change the World, for the teaching and auxiliary staff of the school.  Executive Secretary, Pastor Wilmoth James addressed the gathering on the topics, Together we can Change the World if we are Mission-Focused and Together we can Change the World if we are Spirit-Filled. Mrs Gerene Joseph, the Education Director focused on the topics, Together we can Change the World if we are United, and Together we can Change the World if we are Transformed. Attendees left the retreat, spiritually recharged and recommitted to their mission as workers in the Seventh-day Adventist educational system.

Under the dynamic leadership of Mr Wade Tobin, the school reopened on Monday September 10.  A representative from FLOW (local telecommunications business) was on hand to present tokens of appreciation to the teachers for the distinguished service that they continue to render to the students of the BVI territory.  Members from the Zion Hill Steel Orchestra were also on hand to participate in the opening ceremony by presenting renditions such as Hear my Prayer O Lord,  and A Chosen Generation. These were well received by students and staff.

The Adventures in Transformation, Bible Lesson series was launched with Class Five.  Twenty-nine students eagerly embraced the project, ready to delve into a study of God’s Word. On completion of the twelve-lesson series, students will be awarded an Adventures in Transformation Certificate.
