Adventist School Students Catch the Attention of the Medical World

02 Feb 2019 | Gerene Joseph

Three students from SDA schools in the US Virgin Islands territory are headed to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, to participate in the 2019 National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF) on Advanced Medicine and Health Care sponsored by the George Mason University. The fortunate students are Angelica Sterling, an 11th Grader from the St Thomas/St John SDA School, and Zayna Dawod and Roy-Ann Philbert, both 9th graders from the St Croix SDA School.  All three students were chosen because of their outstanding scholastic achievement and their interest in pursuing studies in the field of medicine.

The students accessed the College Board's Student Search Service and their data was captured by the George Mason University and used to identify them “as high-achieving students worthy of selection.” By attending the NYLF Advanced Medicine & Health Care, students can receive college credit through George Mason University.

Mrs Gerene Joseph, Education Director of the North Caribbean Conference noted, “This is just another demonstration of the quality of our students. Our students have made their mark in territorial educational activities such as Poetry Out Loud, the Shakespeare Festival, The Law and You and the KidWind Science initiative.

‌We commend all the teachers who played a role in molding our students.” The Administration of the North Caribbean Conference and the Education Director take this opportunity to congratulate the students and their parents, as well as Principals Whitman Browne of the St Thomas/St John SDA School and Johnston Southwell of the St Croix SDA School on this significant achievement. We wish the students success, as they capitalize on this head-start towards achieving their career goals.
