BVI SDA School Arrested ....
The BVI SDA School arrested the attention of the national arena again as hundreds assembled on January 29, 2012 to witness its historic school building dedication. The event was celebrated under the theme, “Edifying for Eternity.” Officials from the Caribbean Union Conference of SDA, the North Caribbean Conference, local churches and government officials addressed the electrifying ceremony.
One of the highlights of the occasion was a historical showcase of the school from the humble cradle of its beginning in Carrot Bay to its present imposing edifice and programs. The documentary, which presented a thorough present, past and future perspective, was presented by the school’s principal, Mr. Wade Tobin.
The school once again received resounding applause for its initiative in education and moral reforms in the British Virgin Islands. Addressing the ceremony were Dr. The Honorable D. Orlando Smith, OBE; Honorable Julian Fraser, RA (Third District Representative) and Honorable Myron Walwyn, Minister of Education and Culture. Each speaker praised the school for its role in the community and pledged their support to the school’s programs and policies. Recognition and appreciation of the school’s role in character development was the common pulse of the addresses.
Education Director of the Caribbean Union Conference SDA attributed the resounding success of the school to a dedicated school board, that is supported by a dedicated principal and staff, and the scope of vision for the future of Christian Education. Dr. Magdalene Tobias, Education Director of the North Caribbean Conference of SDA and President of NCC, Pastor Silton Browne also commended the school for its dedication and success in the past external examinations, The conference treasurer, Sanida McKenzie presented a cheque of Twenty Five Thousand Dollars ($25,000.00) for the purpose of technological advancement.
One of the chief solicitors and visionary of the school, Vincent. A, David, Ph.D was duly recognized for his determination in keeping the school’s dream alive. The certificate of accreditation was presented to the school’s Education Director and the school’s Principal.
The keynote speaker, Pastor Kern Tobias, President of the Caribbean Union of SDA urged the congregation to support the vision of the school. He attributed the success of any institution to having a vision and keeping that vision alive.
The alumni chorale and the high school choir provided the musical renditions for the ceremony. Pastor Silton Browne, President of NCC performed the official Act of Dedication and the Dedicatory Prayer was done by Vincent A. David, Ph.D. Ms. K’Asia Tobin, Class 2 student of the school unveiled the plaque to culminate the historic event.
The BVI SDA School catapulted to prominence in the Virgin Islands and the Caribbean Union based on its high scholastic achievement in the Primary Five and School Leavings Examination in recent years. Five year’s accreditation (the maximum for any education institution) was awarded to the school in May, 2011 as testimony to the school’s motto, “We Persevere for Excellence.”
